Treatments

Surgery

If you are offered the choice of surgery for your Urological condition, your procedure will be provided by Mr Sadmeet Singh at either Nuffield Derby or Royal Derby Hospital.

Surgical procedures for urological conditions are either carried out in laminar flow theatres or in theatres equipped with robotic surgery systems.

Radiotherapy

External beam radiation therapy uses high-energy radiation beams to destroy cancer cells. Before your treatment begins, we’ll take some imaging scans to establish the precise shape, size and location of the tumour.

If your treatment is after your tumour removal surgery, then we’ll take scans to examine the area where the tumour was removed.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer (cytotoxic) drugs to destroy cancer cells. Cytotoxic means toxic to cells and they prevent cancer cells growing and spading inside body. Most of the chemotherapy agents work through bloods so they can reach any part of the body.

Chemotherapy is given in cycles. Treatment may be given every week, or every two or three weeks.
